How to Attach Photo to Email on Android Phone

When sending emails on your Android phone, there are often times when you need to attach photo to email on Android as well.

Fortunately, this is actually easy to do! You can attach a photo through largely identical processes on a range of different email apps. All you need is to be able to access the photo in your local or cloud storage.

In this guide, we’ll explore the different methods you can use to attach a photo to your email. We’ll talk about:

  • Using the Gallery app to attach a photo
  • Using the Gmail app to attach a photo
  • Using the Outlook app to attach a photo.

How to Attach Photos to Email on Android Phones

How to Attach Photos to Emails on Android Phones via Gallery

The first and most convenient way to send a photo through email is by going to the photo in your Gallery app:

  1. If the image is recent, you might be able to see it in your most recent photos
  1. Otherwise, try to find it by using the search bar and looking through your albums.
  1. Tap on the photo to select it. To select multiple photos, tap and hold a photo, then tap the other photos you want to send
  1. Tap the “Share” button
  1. On the list of sharing methods that appear, tap your email app. It will open an email with the photo (or photos) attached to it
  1. You can then write and send your email normally.

You can follow similar steps on another app for your images, such as a Photos app or Google Photos.

How to Attach Photos to Emails on Android Phones via Gmail

You can also attach a photo directly within your email app. 

This is the most convenient method when you want to attach it to an email you’re already writing. For example, one popular email app you might use is Gmail:

  1. Open the Gmail app

  1. Start writing your email by tapping the “Compose” button

  1. Tap the Attach button which looks like a paper clip

  1. Tap “Attach file” to pick a photo stored on your phone. If your photo is stored in your Google Drive instead, you can tap “Insert from Drive”

  1. Navigate to your photo and tap it. To attach multiple photos, tap and hold a photo, then tap the other photos you want to send
  1. Confirm your selection. The photo (or photos) you selected should show up in the email body.

You can only send up to 20MB worth of photos as attachments on Gmail. To send more (or send big photos), you might need to attach them as Google Drive attachments.

How to Attach Photos to Emails on Android Phones via Outlook

If you’re using Outlook instead of Gmail, you can still follow similar steps to attach a photo to your email:

  1. Open the Outlook app
  1. Start writing your email by tapping the Compose button, which looks like a plus sign
  1. Tap one of the options that appear
  1. Tap “Choose Photo From Library” to attach a photo from your phone’s storage
  1. You can also tap “Use Last Photo Taken” if you want to attach the last photo you took
  1. Tapping “Attach File” will allow you to access your photos in a cloud storage service, like OneDrive or Google Drive.
  1. Navigate to the photo you want to attach and tap it. To select multiple photos, tap and hold a photo, then tap the other photos you want to attach.

You can also use the Office Lens function to access editing and photo-processing tools. These can be especially useful when sending photos for work. 

  1. Open the Outlook app and start writing your email
  1. Tap the Office Lens button which looks like a camera
  1. Tap the round button in the center of the screen to take a picture. You can also tap the icon which looks like a stack of photos to select a picture you’ve already taken
  1. Wait for the image to finish processing. Feel free to use the editing tools to make any necessary edits
  1. Tap “Done”.
